What the hell are those okes up to ?

Funny, I asked the same question a while back when I met Tinus le Roux from Virtual Africa – it’s him and James Taylor, yes the very same, pictured on the pitch at Newlands this past Saturday night.

Turns out they are making amazing 360 degree GigaPixel pix of the stadiums for the world cup – so if you want to know where those oh so expensive World Cup tickets are gonna have you seated, then make sure you check back as we will be adding every stadium and venue here – for the fans… (cue espn music and husky voice ) !

Actually- this post is actually about something more exciting than that, after we met and looked at the possibilities of their amazing technology, we have decide to take it a step further ( oh stop it !) – and can show you how.

The picture below, although self explanatory once you start interacting with it, deserves some facts behind it’s rather extraordinary presence  - so I have quoted Tinus verbatim …

some technical terms and facts:
- It’s called an interactive GigaPixel Image
- we took about 250,  22 MegaPixel images to create it
- the final image is about 2 000 Megapixels (or 2 GigaPixels) in size
- it loads so fast because it has been ’tiled’ in the same way as Google Maps is tiled
- blah blah blah, geek talk……. (let me know if you need anything else)

Click on the image below (it will open a new link), if you were at Newlands to watch The Stormers beat The Waratahs, or even knew someone who was – ‘cos I promise you, with a bit of searching – you will see yourself or mates, it’s the best picture ever !

Is that Morne Du Plessis ?

Yes !

Wow ! but who took this frikkin thing…. ?

And there is Hennie bekker, Andries’ dad

Where ?

There !

Oh Ja, got ‘im.

And isn’t that old whatshisface ?

Yes ! oooh , bad shirt …

- and so on and so on

go go go !

These are some amazing pictures, the technology is just too cool. Imagine if Computicket used it for your seat selection when you buy tickets
