The World Cup does wonders to unite many different and interesting cultures and people together, as their representative teams challenge each other on the field.

Of course the platform that is set by the huge amount of interest and anticipation around the WC, is perfect for iconic brands to get creative, energised and patriotic with their products.

In think you will agree Oakley is certainly an Iconic brand worldwide and they are so ‘on it’.

We were not even too surprised when we saw the highly specialised one-off eyewear designs they have done for the worlds’ biggest sporting spectacle; we certainly were impressed though. The subtle, but powerful SA Flag branding pushed our patriotic fervour levels even higher (close to eye ball level already I can assure you).

Check out the Oakley icon which takes the form of our Flag –awesome!

The Oakley team decided to use the Fuel Cell for this custom project. You’ll be seeing Bob busting out this pair a plenty. The perfect excuse to wear your sunglasses at night (yea you can sing it!) and indoors which is normally reserved for Rock Stars.

My favourite sunnies this past summer were the Oakley Antix (see pic) which were new on the market. A large single lens with sleek round lines was just what I was after. I think I will be choosing a pair of Fuel Cell for next season though.

The Gascan’s were always a favourite and the Fuel Cell are, well I am not sure I would call it an upgrade on the Gascan, but they are similar, perhaps a little larger. I suppose I should just grab a pair now with SA flag. There are only 1500 pairs though, so best I beat you to the store. Oh and I suppose I should mention there are a whole lot of other countries available to … Argentina, Spain, France, Germany, Brazil, England (is there sunshine in England?)… you get the picture.

Perhaps Oakley should do a special edition Volcanic Ash friendly pair for the Europeans. Oakley Volcano! Check out Bob’s viewpoint:

“Seth Hulley, my mate from way back, who went to OZ to work for Oakley there, is back, and I got this little present on his return. Beautiful !

Ryan O Connor also has a pair and tweeted a pic of us in them yesterday. Fun Stuff, and feeling good when I put them on before the Bafana Bafana get out there and dominate – trust the gear guy to catch me in the weird pose on the couch !”

Bobs customs are between R1300 and R1800 depending on the lenses and available at Oakley dealers.
