Everybody has a favourite pub. It’s either a local, a spot of choice on faraway trips, or a once-visited gem that lives on in the memory.
I have small percentage of ownership in mine, but then I am proud to say that I own my favourite pub!
So this week as we headline the first weekly favourite of Rugby Journey, I introduce to you, the ‘Toad in the Village‘: A happy, lively spot that is almost exactly one kilometre from where I live. Magnifique!
We have bought, rebranded and managed this little spot all over the past two years and it is a wonderful journey that we have gone down. It boasts a heavy local flavour, with a few out-of-town visitors (every now and then) and is propped up by the thriving Noordhoek farm village.
The Toad, the central character for the little pub, has a Facebook page and you can follow his Tweets @thetoadsa.
The entrance to the Toad was decked out in some Blue and White for the recent Currie Cup final. The WP boys took a hiding from the home side who thoroughly deserved their victory. The pub remains a super spot to watch rugby, get together for post-work drinks or have a hearty meal and catch up with friends.
Who knows, we might meet up for a beer there sometime soon.
Tell me about your favourite pub and I’ll see if I can stop by for a visit on my Rugby Journey!!
Bob

Wish I could have experienced the toad while back home. My best pub in CT firemans arms…miss the place
And Union is a great spot in town and great beer!
That is a great spot- don’t forget their pork prego roll, outstanding !!
Pity The Toad doesn’t serve real beer, bitter. You don’t know you have lived untill you drink a pint of Ruddles, Adnams,Breakspeares, Fullers etc. SA beer is LAGER. All sugar, top pressure and gas! Ughh
That’s so interesting – i didn’t know you own The Toad. We went there on Monday with the crazy holiday traffic; love the “grass”..
My favorite pub is in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town called Slattery’s Restaurant. Welcoming friendly atmosphere and great place to watch rugby and F1. They offer excellent food with their club sandwich and chips being something special.
Hi Bob, Toks was there last night. Ask him how he liked it ?
De Akker! Situated in dorp street, stellenbosch. They don’t stock the mythical “one beer”.
