Talk about “the Total Eclipse of the Pass” has been rumouring from one mill to another.

He has never been the stock-standard sporting edition, and some of the recent talk has him playing rugby in Japan, Rugby League in Australia, Boxing in South Africa, all before he returns to New Zealand for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Time will be telling very soon, but this scribe does hope he will see it through in New Zealand, but what should also be pertinent is the developing nature of what this professionalism can look like in this rugby code. In Aotearoa, there has been recent discussion round sabbaticals, and their growing reality in the top All Black contracts. Dan Carter, in fact, has two.

Rugby is still very young, but she will likely follow the other sporting leaders, or the money men and managers will begin contemplating change.

Anyway, that is another story, and this is about SBY and SBW.

I am a fan of “the Eclipse”. You will have to read on for William’s perspective.

‘Speculation is rife that Sonny Bill is on the move again. He’s signing papers again and this time it doesn’t involve a homeless man masquerading as Muhammed Ali. Sonny is reportedly going big in Japan and then back into the NRL now that his suspension is lifted. They say he’ll be playing for the Sydney Roosters and after another ‘boxing’ performance there can be no denying that Sonny is indeed destined to be best remembered in rugby circles as a cock.’

Harsh?

“there can be no denying that Sonny is indeed destined to be best remembered in rugby circles as a cock.”

What utter tosh. What media hacks like yourself fail to see is what drives Sonny behind the scenes. His earned income goes towards supporting his immediate family (parents, brother and 2 sisters) so that they do not have to be burdened with the slavery of menial blue-collar jobs. Selfish fans and media hacks choose to see what hinders/benefits their own personal agendas and ideals. Sonny gives as much off the field to whichever team/sport/organisation he is with as he does on it (via endorsements/promotions etc), so for people to suggest that he’s only in it for himself is both shortsighted and plain ignorant, yet somewhat typical of mainstream plebs. The fact none of his closest peers (coaches/players) from Toulon to Canterbury to the All Blacks to the Chiefs have had a bad word about the bloke tells you all you need to know. People don’t want to see what does not fit their own bias viewpoint.

      Kefe [not your real name],

That would be singular. I am a fan. I will be disappointed if he leaves, but he has fulfilled his time faithfully in NZ.

You would have picked that up if you were reading objectively.
